Mid-Autumn Festival this year is a three-day break. Many are taking the chance to go on a short holiday. Transport systems are more than ready for hordes of passengers.
Almost 5 million people are expected to take the train on Saturday. That number is 33 percent higher compared to last year. Extra trains are in service to meet the demand, especially on lines between big cities and tourist destinations. The three day festival is expected to see 16 million passengers travelling by train.
Meanwhile, 8 airlines on the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are providing chartered flights across the Taiwan Straits. Most tickets have already been booked. Many Taiwan compatriots will spend their holiday in Beijing visiting the Olympic venues. And some are visiting cities such as Guilin and Guiyang, which are popular with tourists.
